EVELYN BREVARD (DAVID) JONES

     Mrs. Evelyn Brevard (David) Jones, 84, former resident of Cannon County died August 23, 2010. She was born July 20, 1926 in Watertown, TN. Her parents were the late H. P. and Minnie (Brevard) David. She is also preceded in death by her husband Gray Jones.

     Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, David & Carolyn Jones of Charleston, SC; daughter, Gail Ross of St. Louis, MO; brother, Zeb David of Knoxville; sister, Frances Hashbarger of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Courtney, Michael & Jonathan and three great grandchildren. Also, cousins, Larry Richards of Woodbury and Bill Smith of Woodbury.

     Mrs. Jones was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1944. She and her family lived in Woodbury for many years. She later moved to Knoxville, attended business school and then worked for the Commerical Credit Corporation. After marrying she moved to Fayetteville, NC and was very involved in being a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. She attended the Christian Church in Fayetteville.

     Memorial services are to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Woodbury. Contact Smith Funeral Home for further details. (615)563-5337

CHARLES ERNEST FRANCIS, JR.

 
     Mr. Charles Ernest Francis, Jr., 77, formerly of Cannon County died Aug. 17, 2010. Mr. Francis was born Dec. 11, 1932 in Readyville. His parents were the late Charles Ernest Francis, Sr. and Elizabeth Tassey Francis.

     Survivors include his wife, Charlene (Hardy) Francis of Starke, FL; daughter, Beth Francis Isabel of Valrico, FL; sons, John David Francis of Ft. Myers, FL; Donnie E. Francis of New York City; sister, Elizabeth Marshall of Nashville; brother, Jesse Francis of Knoxville and two granddaughters.

     Mr. Francis grew up in Cannon County and graduated Central High School in the Class of 1950. He was very athletic and a star football player. His son John David inherited his athletic ability and was a kicker for the University of Florida. Mr. Francis joined the U. S. Navy after high school. After serving his country, graduated from MTSU with a BA and Masters Degree in Education. He moved to Starke, FL and worked in the Bradford County School System for 40 years as an educator and administrator. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the VFW, a charter member of the Civitan Club and Bradford County High School Athletic Club.
